My Sydney Weekender with Anthony Puharich

You’d expect a butcher to be into blood sports – think UFC, rugby league or axe throwing – but the man behind Vic’s Meats and the up-market Woollahra butcher shop Victor Churchill, Anthony Puharich, is into something a bit more subtle.

As part of his Sydney Weekend he likes nothing more than a hit of badminton at Badminton Works in Botany. It’s a huge space with 14 courts and it takes a lot more exertion than you think.

Anthony will also always drop into Victor Churchill to make sure the fresh cuts of beef, pork, lamb and more are at their finest. And that’s not to mention the dry aged beef, the incredible array of charcuterie and the house-made pies, pastries, desserts and ready-to-go meals.

And where does an Australian/Croatian butcher go to eat? Another favourite weekend spot is Europe Grill in Newtown. It’s a warm and welcoming taste of Croatian hospitality with food to match. Try the sizzling garlic prawns and dip your bread in the aromatic olive oil while you do it. And you must try the meat platter – pork skewer, pork and cheese sausage and the famous cevapi.

Celebrate the Croatian way – with a feast!
