It’s hard to imagine the lives of early Australian pioneers, but in the Hawkesbury there’s a place where you can literally step back into the 1800’s!
The Australiana Pioneer Village is a living museum, where visitors can experience the atmosphere and daily activities of life in Australia over 100 years ago. Run by a team of dedicated volunteers all dressed in period costume, the village comprises nineteen heritage- listed abodes, which are all intact! Visitors can wander the dwellings, which have all been furnished inside, giving insights into the lives of the early pioneers. There are many opportunities for the kids to get ‘hands- on’ with butter and lemonade-making demonstrations, as well as street theatre performances. Daredevils can have a go at riding a real Penny Farthing bike, and there’s even a small Penny Farthing for the kids to have a try. There’s also tractor, and mini- train rides, in the village too!
For those who love to dress up, the whole family can try on colonial outfits and take a photo- the perfect memento of a great day out!
