Beppi’s 70th Birthday | Darlinghurst

Sydney’s oldest and best loved Italian restaurant turns 70 this year, and Beppi’s in Darlinghurst is showing no signs of slowing down. It’s become synonymous with Sydney society, fine food and even finer wines.

The restaurant was founded by Beppi Polese and his wife Norma in 1956, and has transformed from a cheap eatery for local Italian workers into the fine dining destination it is today. Along the way it has attracted many famous faces, from Frank Sinatra and Shirley Bassey to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Harrison Ford.

To celebrate their 70th anniversary, Beppi’s has been serving its greatest hits of the last 70 years, including dishes like Steak Diane and cannelloni made with crespelli or pancakes instead of pasta. There’s also perennial classics like tagliolini with Western Australian scampi, mussels and pipis in fish stock.

And of course, there’s only one way to end a nostalgic Italian meal – tiramisu served straight from the bowl.

After 70 years of authentic Italian food, great wine and five-star service, Beppi’s is still the place to be.
