What are you doing on St Patrick’s Day? Well, why not try some of the most authentic Irish food you’ll find in Sydney, as shown to us by Australia’s favourite Irishman, Colin Fassnidge.
Start at BIG Dave’s Chipper in Maroubra Junction, where the chips are hand cut, twice fried in beef fat, and served with a sweet and spicy curry sauce. Or try a Spice Bag – crispy fried bits of chicken, tossed through chips with fried onion and capsicum, and curry sauce on the side, of course!
Next, head to The Rocks for another authentic Irish experience, two Irish bars, Frank Mac’s and The Doss House. Frank Mac’s is a light and lively take on the typical Irish general store. Try the smoked salmon with Guinness soda bread, or the beef and Guinness pie with a pint of the good stuff. Then duck downstairs to The Doss House, the cosiest Irish bar you’ll find, with a huge collection of top shelf whisky. And the food matches the atmosphere, like the Ploughman’s Platter with Ballymaloe relish, and a black pudding, brie and cranberry sauce toastie.
Go for green and try Colin’s top Irish spots this St Pats Day – whether it’s an Irish fish & chip shop, a whiskey bar, or both!
