Fiddler on the Roof, the classic Broadway musical of family, love and tradition is back in town, and wowing audiences at the Theatre Royal Sydney.
Studded with timeless songs like If I Were a Rich Man, Sunrise Sunset and Tradition, and some incredibly flamboyant dance numbers, this production can only be described as joyous.
The hapless milkman, and father of five daughters, Tevye is played by Troy Sussman and his long-suffering wife Golde is played by Alexis Fishman. The cast also features Sigrid Thornton as Yente the matchmaker and John Waters as the butcher Lazar Wolf.
The production shines a new light on the piece by promoting the feisty female characters – especially daughters Tzeitel (Freya Boltman), Hodel (Ellen Ebbs) and Chava (Caity Plummer) – struggling to break from the weight of tradition without breaking their family apart.
