Foodie Paradise

It’s not often you get live music at breakfast while overlooking views of the Southern Great Barrier Reef…but you do when you’re start your day at in Yeppoon.

Lure Café has a cool relaxed vibe, which is echoed throughout Yeppoon. This coastal village has all the makings for a blissful holiday, there’s a booming café culture, and it’s fast becoming a foodie hotspot.

So why not let your tastebuds do the touring! The Taste Capricorn Coast website launched this year and offers self-guided food trails.

A must-try on your list is the multi-award winning Waterline Restaurant at Keppel Bay Marina. While the seafood is as fresh as it gets, you’ve got to try the beef. Matt smith is the executive chef and goes the extra mile to highlight local produce.

This is the ultimate paddock to plate experience – Matt’s wife Kylie and her family have owned and run Banana Station for 5 generations…and this is the only place you can taste their award-winning beef in Australia.

Taste Capricorn Coast is a celebration of local flavours – with nearly 50 producers, eateries, markets and farm experiences to discover. High Valley Dawn Permaculture Farm is 140 acres of produce-paradise 4km from Yeppoon’s beaches.

Ross O’Reilly built this organic market garden and food forest to supply his nearby restaurant beaches, and he invites visitors on weekly tours to witness the farm to fork philosophy first hand.

The plants here don’t just look happy, they taste it! And there’s good reason for that. As Ross explains “It’s about going back and growing food the way we used to grow food. Growing food in harmony with nature – not trying to control, manipulate, modify, but just working with nature and letting nature do her thing. And the more we do that in this garden, just the better things grow and Mother Nature’s got an answer to everything”

Ross runs workshops on permaculture and sustainable living and is passionate about educating kids in particular about where their food comes from. To Ross it’s so much more than just growing food…it’s a way to heal the world… “We follow the permaculture ethics of earth care, people care, fair share. And I think we should be obligated for our future generations to do what we can now to turn the big ship back on course and we’re doing our little bit here”

Ross also runs wellness retreats on the farm and healing sessions by the sea. There’s a real sense of wholeness here – nature, food, and wellness all working in harmony.

And that carries right through to Beaches restaurant. Fresh produce is picked daily and delivered to the restaurant which is right on the beachfront. And as they say, the proof is in the pudding, or in this case the pasta.

Beaches signature dish is the moringa seafood pasta. The pasta is made fresh, from the super-food moringa plant from the farm, tossed with local seafood.

Good food…good vibes…pure goodness!
