If you love a weekend that combines nature AND culture, head straight to the Western Sydney Parklands. An incredible natural resource in Western Sydney, the parklands boast 5,280 hectares, and stretch across 127 kilometres. There are loads of bush walking and biking trails, as well as a very exciting new trail – Gabrugal Yana.
Gabrugal Yana is not only a bush walk, it’s also an art trail that winds through the Cumberland Plain woodland – from Cecil Park to Middleton Grange. Along the route, you’ll encounter artworks – embedded into trees – by leading first Nations artists that represent the six Dharug seasons. Gabrugal Yana means ‘walk of the Gabru (or Cabro) people’, and is on the traditional lands of the Grabrugal (or Cabrogal) people – clan of the Dharug nation.
There are many scenic picnic spots, along the route, where you can enjoy a BYO picnic, and the delightful scenery and ambience, as well as the incredible artworks. Make sure you also pack plenty of water, a hat, insect repellent and sunscreen for a fantastic day out!
