A melting pot of many cultures from across the globe, Sydney’s inner west is a food lover’s delight. And there’s no-one better to explore this fascinating part of the city with than ‘foodie queen’ Maeve O’Meara. Maeve has been running her Gourmet Safaris, both locally and internationally, for many years and is the perfect conduit between restaurateurs, food producers and the public.
Sydney Weekender’s Sally Stanton joins Maeve on a ‘Marrickville Producers’ walking tour which includes visits to Vannella Cheese, to see the Italian salt cheese burrata being made the traditional way, Poor Toms gin distillery for strawberry G&T’s, and the Stix cafe where they grow exotic mushrooms, on site, and use food sourced from the owner, David Allison’s organic farm in the Hawkesbury.
Maeve has also joined forces with her dynamic daughter, and Newtown resident, Kitty O’Meara, to create night time walking tours through the colourful streets of Newtown and Enmore. The tour includes visits to local artisans, including Andrew from Stax of Wax, and past many street artworks, adorning local buildings and walls. There’s also plenty of delicious food to sample, at Enmore’s Colombo Social and gelato at the award- winning Cow and the Moon.
