Mother’s Day is a chance to do something special for Mum – well why not two special things, breakfast and lunch.
We’re starting at Café Patina in Wahroonga, a special place nestled in this leafy North Shore suburb. It’s perfect for a special occasion, but equally great to grab breakfast, lunch and dinner anytime.
The café caters to people with dietary requirements and has no gluten flour in the kitchen at all to keep sensitive stomachs happy. And chef Stuart likes to let the quality ingredients and clever flavour combos speak for themselves.
Try the bircher muesli layered with creamy coconut chia pudding, or the roasted carrot and cumin fritters for breakfast, and there is some sensational seafood on the lunch menu. We had Queensland bugs with garlic butter and a beautiful bit of pan-roasted barramundi. Perfection.
Another great spot to treat Mum is The Verandah Beecroft, a brand-new bar and restaurant inside the Beecroft Bowling Club. The place has had a full facelift and features an external grill which has a huge influence on the menu. In fact, every dish has some element cooked on the grill
Like the grilled scallop and ricotta parcels wrapped in brik pastry and the halloumi in a grilled pineapple salsa. For mains, you can’t go past the sirloin steak with black garlic mayo, or the grilled prawns with squid ink wafers.
Finish up with a bowl and a bowl of dessert – it’s the least you can do to show Mum how much you love her.
