Opera Under The Stars

Regarded as one of the best outdoor cultural events in the world, Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour is back this month with Puccini’s critically acclaimed masterpiece, Madama Butterfly!

This weekend Sally gets a sneak peek at this stunning Opera Australia production which features an incredible over-water stage, more than 70 talented opera stars, orchestra musicians, a speedboat and the glittering city skyscape lit nightly by a thrilling fireworks display.

Join Sally as she chats to Opera stars Karah Son and Eva Kong about sharing the lead role of the love-struck Cio-Cio-San; to Diego Torre on performing Cio-Cio’s brash love interest Pinkerton, and to the legendary conductor Brian Castles-Onion who has been at the helm of every Handa Opera on the Harbour since its conception in 2012. Sally even gets a ride on the speedboat used in the production!

Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour is an all-inclusive night out with a range of excellent pop-up food and beverage options on site. Or, if you’re after that special, elevated experience, audiences can book a pre-show dinner at the exclusive fine dining room and bar in the HSBC Platinum Club, then take your seats in the comfortable grandstand to enjoy world-class opera with world-class views! What could be better?!
