Outback Food & Wine

The farmers, and producers, around Dubbo have been doing it tough of late, but there’s one way you and support them, and that’s to take a trip to the region, and the fantastic Dubbo Farmer’s Market. The market offers fruit and vegetables, artisan bread, local produce, and some fascinating products like emu eggs and oil. You get to meet the farmers, and producers, and buy directly from them, so you know you’re buying the freshest and the best.

If you’re keen to try some locally produced wine, there’s only one place to head to and that’s Red Earth Estate. Dubbo’s only cellar door, Red Earth produces a variety of wines, but their biggest seller is their Premium Shiraz. There are cheese plates available, but there’s also a wide range of delicious, house-made dumplings, to be enjoyed, amongst the vines. And if you want to stay amongst the wines, Lazy River Estate offers just that. The Boathouse is a stunning two-bedroom villa, situated amongst the vines. The open-plan living space is light and airy, and there’s a deck where you can enjoy the stunning sunsets, with some cheese and wine. The property also has its own private swimming spot- ‘Hippo Beach’, where you can take a river dip, and enjoy the sounds of Taronga Western Plains Zoo’s animals, who reside on the other side of the river bank.
