Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs | Australian Museum

If there’s one civilisation that has fascinated the world over, it’s Ancient Egypt – and right now, some of its mystical artefacts are right here in Sydney!

Ramses & the Gold of the Pharaohs is an incredible exhibition, currently on show at the Australian Museum, and exclusive to Sydney. Ramses & The Gold of the Pharaohs is thousands of years in the making and features over 180 ancient Egyptian treasures and artefacts, making it one of the most exciting collections to be shown in Sydney, and Australia. The exhibit will transport you back, over 3,300 years ago, to the sands of the Sahara desert, where pharaohs once roamed – and one of the greatest of them all was Ramses the Great.

Ramses ruled Egypt for 67 years, the second longest reign for any pharaoh, and achieved many things in his lifetime. Highlights of the exhibit include beautiful gold masks, magnificent jewellery, and mummified animals and pets, and Ramses’s sarcophagus – one of the most impressive royal coffins to be discovered. It’s also a multi-sensory exhibit with some incredible virtual reality experiences that will enable the viewer to tour some impressive monuments, built by Ramses, including Abu Simbel and the Tomb of Queen Nefertari.
