Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Click Frenzy…never has there been more pressure to purchase the ‘latest and the greatest’ item. Meanwhile, thousands of tonnes of items and clothing end up in landfill every day. While this is the current trend, there are some who are trying to make a difference, one recycled item at a time!
Good360 is an organisation dedicated to matching unused and unsold items, donated by many big businesses, to those in need. This incredible organisation, headed up by Alison Covington, has so far donated over $2 million dollars worth of items, to tens of thousands of people in need.
Located within the Addison Community Centre, in Marrickville in Sydney’s inner west, is The Bower. The Bower takes unused and unwanted items and sells them in an eclectic onsite shop. This not-for-profit entity also runs many fantastic workshops, including upholstery and ‘upcycling’, to spread the message of reuse and repair.
Just across from The Bower, and also within the Addison Road Community Centre, is Reverse Garbage. Dedicated to saving the planet, Reverse Garbage has been in operation since the 1970’s and specialises in factory offcuts. Whether you’re an artist, crafter or in need of decorations for a party or event, you’ll find a world of creative possibilities at Reverse Garbage, while helping to reduce the global carbon footprint. At Reverse Garbage, saving the planet has never been so much fun!
