The Macleay Valley Coast is a stunning mix of beautiful coastline, and pristine hinterland…and the fishing aint bad either!
The calm waters of the Macleay River, and a healthy river system, makes for excellent fishing. One of the best fishing operators in the area is South West Rocks Estuary Charters, owned and run by passionate fisherman, Mathew Smith. With many years of fishing experience, Mathew shares his knowledge and passion for the sport, and the region, by offering a range of tours on his trusty vessel, from guided fishing tours, to beach fishing, as well as eco and sunset tours.
One of the jewels in the crown of the Macleay Valley Coast is undoubtedly the Trial Bay Gaol. The prisoners have long gone, but the beautifully preserved ruins remain today, for visitors to explore and learn about the lives of the prisoners who lived, worked and died here in the late 1800’s. Visitors can step back in time as they enjoy guided or self-guided tours. Regular events are also held at the gaol, including the annual Sculpture in the Gaol which runs from the 2- 10 July 2022, showcasing the works of many great artists and is a public art exhibition in a location like no other.
