The historic Argyle Stores in the heart of the Rocks have been transformed into one of Sydney’s newest dining destinations. Already housing German staple the Munich Brauhaus, fine Japanese diner Sake and the Tex Mex cantina El Camino, it’s now also home to three new venues under the banner of The Collective – The Garden, The Dining Room and the Tailor Room.
The Garden is just the place to start your day serving sensational breakfast dishes like steak and eggs, crab meat omelette and the prettiest hot cakes you’re likely to see. If you stay through to brunch or come for lunch, you can sample a cocktail from the outdoor bar and try snacks like the perfect Prawn Roll or a plate of crispy Fritto Misto.
Inside, the Dining Room is a spectacular reinvention of the former woolstore, with the original sandstone walls, timber pillars and fittings all restored to their former greatness. The food is just as spectacular, with appetisers like Baby Abalone Schnitzel with Aioli and a Foie Gras Éclair really kicking things off. Steak tartare, coral trout with piperade and the Rolls Royce of steak meals – a 1.5kg wagyu tomahawk are just a sample of the delicious dishes on the menu.
And for a cheeky nightcap you can head to the Tailor Room, a small but perfectly formed bar serving bespoke cocktails with a side of cool vinyl.
