What’s On: Mayfield Garden Autumn Festival

Mayfield Garden is the largest cool climate garden in the southern hemisphere and probably the most significant private garden in Australia.

Located between Oberon and Bathurst, and between two and three hours’ drive for most Sydneysiders, Mayfield is made up of two main garden areas, Mayfield Garden and the Hawkins’ Family Garden – together they make up the spectacular, world-class 65-hectare cool climate garden.

Mayfield Garden has been specially designed to open year-round as a tourist destination (only closed 25 & 26 December) that covers 16 hectares.

The Hawkins’ Family Garden is the private garden area of the Hawkins family, which is an additional 49  hectares beyond Mayfield Garden. The whole Hawkins’ Family Garden is open to visitors during four seasonal festivals.

Each Autumn the garden literally explodes with colour, so it is no surprise that it is one of the most popular times of the year to visit Mayfield.

Mayfield’s annual Autumn festival will take place from the 2 – 25 April, 2021 (which includes the Easter break). During this Festival the entire 65-hectare Garden will be open to visitors.

You can get lost in the traditional English inspired Maze, see the Croquet Lawn, the Hawkins’ Family Chapel, the Chook Hilton, the 80-metre Cascade & Temple and much more.

Mayfield is a large outside space where you, your family and friends can escape and benefit from some tranquility and beauty, surrounded by nature. There is plenty of room to wander comfortably, with little nooks and corners in the garden for families and groups to share a BYO picnic.
