It one of Sydney’s most historic suburbs, it’s full of fantastic places to eat and drink and it’s completely surrounded by water. Of course, we’re talking about beautiful Balmain!
History is on show all over the peninsula, but one place that is really worth a visit on those hot summer days is the Dawn Fraser Baths at Elkington Park. First built in 1882 as the Balmain Swimming Club, the baths have been welcoming locals and visitors alike for almost 150 years. A recent renovation has preserved the historical value of the site while bringing the facilities up to spec.
The best way to get to Balmain? It has to be on the ferry. Ferries leave Circular Quay and travel to Balmain via Milsons Point and McMahons Point. There are even two ferry stops in Balmain you can get off – Balmain East and Thames St.
And when you arrive at Balmain East you’ll be greeted by The Fenwick, a sensational restaurant right on the harbour. This former tugboat repair shop now serves up stunning modern Australian dishes with the best view in Sydney.
Come and rediscover this beautiful suburb!
