Flavours of Petersham

Petersham, in Sydney’s inner west, is also affectionately referred to as ‘little Portugal’ due to the amount of fantastic Portugese restaurants that line its high street. And if you’re a fan of the classic Portugese tart, Sweet Belem Cake Boutique is where you’ll find some of the finest Portugese tarts, this side of the motherland. Made daily, in their hundreds, the Sweet Belem tarts are hand-made using high-quality ingredients to make the pastry and custard, and of course, real butter! Swing in for coffee, and a fresh Portugese tart, or why not try some of the many other delectable tarts on offer, including chocolate and salted caramel tarts. There’s also a range of traditional, and other, Portugese sweets, cakes, and desserts to sample, as well as Portugese bread.

Petersham may be known as ‘Little Portugal’- the home of Portguese- style chicken- but there’s one person who’s bucking the trend! Sharon Kwan’s restaurant, the Sharon Kwan Kitchen, is where you’ll find Sharon’s unique Asian- style flame-grilled chicken, cooked rotisserie style and featuring two different flavours- Gai Yang (Thai) and Ayam Bakar (Malaysian). Sharon also serves a mean Char Kwei Teow, as well as a range of authentic Malasian and Thai curries and other dishes. It may be a ‘hole in the wall’, but Sharon Kwan Kitchen sure packs a punch!
