Hadestown the Musical

A reimagined ancient tale of Greek mythology hits the Sydney stage in this smash-hit musical that blends modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz.

Hadestown wowed audiences on Broadway and the West End and it is now Sydney’s turn to experience the phenomenon, which is now playing at the Theatre Royal Sydney.

Set in a New Orleans bar, Hadestown retells two of the classic tales of love and loss from Greek mythology – the story of Orpheus and Eurydice and the story of Hades and Persephone – through a score created by American folk songstress Anais Mitchell.

The winner of eight Tony Awards including best musical and best score, as well as a Grammy for best musical album, Hadestown blends Americana, folk and jazz to create a vibrant, contemporary masterpiece.

The cast is headed by the one and only Christine Anu, who plays Hermes the messenger of the gods, and includes Noah Mullins and Abigail Adriano as Orpheus and Eurydice, and Elenoa Rokobaro and Adrian Tamburini as Persephone and Hades.
