Hidden in the Hawkesbury

Who knew some of Sydney’s brightest new food spots were hidden away in the Hawkesbury? And not only are they serving up some spectacular eats, they’re also bringing the community together!

Butlers Pantry is the delicious hub of the new Red Bank development in North Richmond, and the first bricks and mortar venture from caterer to the stars Alex Cadger. The place is set on the site of an old dairy, and the wood, sandstone and massive open fire just scream country hospitality.

And so does the menu. Breakfast could be a superb brioche French toast with cornflake crumbs and biscoff sauce, or corn fritters with lashings of smoked salmon and house made pickles. For lunch, start with the arancini balls, then move on to the blue swimmer crab pasta, or the lamb, roast pumpkin and fried brussels sprout salad.

One town over is the woodfired wonder of Windsor, Cricca, which is bringing their own brand of Italian-ish meals to the Hawkesbury. Try the buffalo Stracciatella with slow cooked beetroot and spices served with woodfired bread, a plate of fresh or woodfired oysters or cured kingfish, or the divine tortelli stuffed with potato and soppressata.

Two gems hiding out in the Hawkesbury, but better be quick – they won’t stay hidden for much longer!
