The Hawkesbury and it’s surrounds are known for their indigenous and colonial history as well as it’s sensational natural beauty. Now it’s also getting a reputation for great food and fine arts.
In a former 1880s bank building in the middle of Richmond you’ll find the Bank Bazaar and Café. The Victorian interiors and delightful outside garden area give it a unique feel, and it aims to serve café classics with a slight elevation.
Think French toast with house made berry sauce and pistachio crunch, a big breakfast with chorizo, local free range eggs and homemade tomato chutney, or a pumpkin and halloumi salad with honey mustard dressing. Or an extremely generous high tea with sweets, savouries, fruit salad and of course, fresh scones.
On the fine art front, the Purple Noon Gallery is doing some heavy lifting. The gallery is named for a famous Arthur Streeton painting of the area, and now houses new exhibitions every month showing local artists, contemporary art and indigenous art. And it also houses the prestigious Hawkesbury Art prize every two years.
Whether you’re hungry for food or for culture, head to the Hawkesbury.
