Jinja

There’s Chinese food and there’s superb Chinese food, and Jinja Bar and Restaurant in Macquarie Park definitely falls into the latter category. It’s a smart and stylish restaurant with entire floor to itself at the Governor Hotel.

The modern Cantonese design is a perfect match for the food, which takes Southern Chinese classics and mixes them with French, Italian and even Japanese influences.

Try the live lobster stir fried in an imperial Singapore chilli sauce. Make sure you order the steamed or friend mantou buns to soak up every last drop of that incredible sauce.

Another brilliantly rendered classic is the Peking Duck – succulent tender breast meat with crunchy, shiny skin, rolled up in a fresh steamed pancake with housemade plum and hoisin sauce. Now that’s a mouthful to savour.

One dish not to be missed is the Nan Jing Pork Belly, crisp cubes of pork smothered in a beautiful balanced sweet sauce. Make sure you have it with the crab fried rice – a truly heavenly combo.

Or just enjoy the sumptuous dumpling served day and night, yum cha style. And make sure you check out what else the Governor has to offer while you’re there.

Jinja is a really special dining experience. Next time you feel like san choy bow, come and try the lobster san choy bow and you’ll see what I mean.
