Aquariums are for fish, and terrariums are for plants! These lovely, miniature
plant worlds, encased in a glass vessel, were first used- back in the 1800’s by
an ingenious botanist – to transport native and exotic plants across the high
seas. It was soon found that, due to their mini, self-sustaining ecosystems,
they survived, and terrariums were born!
Over the years, terrariums have gone in and out of fashion. Lately they have
experienced a resurgence in popularity as a stylish adornment to your home
or office. If you’re keen to plant and design your very own, bespoke terrarium,
Little Succers in Neutral Bay are running workshops for kids and adults to do
just that. After you select your glass vessel shape of your liking, you simply
layer charcoal, sand, and then a selection of colourful sand, and pebbles to
effect. You then choose your miniature succulent or succulents to plant, and
then decorate your plant world with a range of miniature items, from lamas to
mermaids, so you can really let your imagination run wild. Terrarium
workshops are available to do as an individual, and as a group, and are perfect
for a special event or celebration.
Flowers die, but if you look after your terrarium, it can live and thrive,
alongside you, for years to come!
