The Slim Dusty Centre

Tamworth is the home of country music…but the KING of Australian country hailed from the beautiful Macleay Valley Coast! And built as a living tribute to the man that became legend is The Slim Dusty Centre in South Kempsey.

The multipurpose centre- dedicated to a country music giant that is Slim Dusty  comprises the Slim Dusty Museum, an art gallery, a gift shop and a cafe. It’s also a venue for hire.

The Slim Dusty Museum features many objects and images from the Kilpatrick family’s own extensive archive. There’s Slim’s famous car- ‘Old Purple’- and caravan which was used by Slim, wife Joy and the whole family, to travel the country, performing in many remote regions and towns where no-one went before. There’s also an incredible collection of Slim and Joy’s performance costumes, and a whole glass cabinet full of Slim’s ubiquitous hats. Slim’s wall of Golden Guitars, numbering thirty-eight in total, is also on display, as well as many other pieces of fascinating and emotional memorabilia. Visitors will learn about Slim Dusty’s life, as well as the inception and development of the Australian country music industry, largely spear-headed by Slim!

Visitors can also enjoy a post- tour Devonshire Tea, with fresh scones jam and creme, in the cafe, as well great coffee, topped with artworks in Slim Dusty’s image. Come for a few hours, or spend the whole day here!
