Manu Vs Gary

Chefs know the best places to eat, right? And when those chefs are Manu Feildel and Gary Mehigan, you know you’re in for something special.

First up is Gary’s find, a lovely little café in Pyrmont called Quick Brown Fox Eatery, perfect for breakfast, brunch or lunch.

The signature dish is the hoshihikari rice congee, topped with enoki mushrooms, chilli fried egg and maple bacon, but sweet-toothed patrons will find the banoffee pie waffles with caramel and banana too hard to go past.

And sometimes the simple dishes are the best – like the soft and creamy folded egg with confit tomatoes and the mushroom toastie, made with three cheeses, Dijon mustard and a touch of truffle.

Manu’s picked the dinner place, and he’s chosen Ho Jiak in Town Hall. This Malaysian beauty is the third in the Ho Jiak family and lives up to the reputation of smart, spicy deliciousness.

Start off with a laksa bomb, a soup dumpling filled with the classic laksa flavours, then sample the salt and pepper tofu skins. Cleanse your palate with a savory custard made with three different types of eggs, then head to the classic mains – chilli crab with fried milk bread or a steaming plate of char kway teo with crab meat.

Trust Gary and Manu to serve you up a great eating out experience – day or night.
