Penrith Regional Art Gallery

In Sydney’s western suburbs, you’ll find a very special house that has grown to become a centre of art, ideas, and excellence!

Once owned by artists Gerald and Margot Lewers, the house and gardens were bequeathed by the family to the local council in 1980, and today it has grown to become the Penrith Regional Gallery. An exceptional regional gallery, and a champion of many local talent, the gallery features regular exhibitions by local artists, including the highly successful current show by Dhungatti artist Blak Douglas. Blak Douglas- ‘The Halfway Line’ features a range of powerful works by Douglas, including his Archibald prize- winning portrait of Wiradjuri artist Karla Dickens. Another group of local artists, making waves at the gallery, are the Outer West Lacemakers or ‘Owls’. Maggie and the Owls- Light in Space is an exhibition of traditional and contemporary lacework, and offers the opportunity for visitors to see the ‘Owls’ at work, making lace.

For a pre or post- show coffee, brunch or lunch, head straight to Cafe at Lewers. Overlooking the heritage gardens, and offering a lovely courtyard to dine in, Cafe at Lewers offers a Modern Australian menu with great coffee too!
