Sub Base Platypus

Sydney is home to some beautiful, waterfront parks, and Sub Base Platypus has a fascinating history to match!

Located in North Sydney, and easily accessible by car or by ferry, Sub Base Platypus was once a submarine base, and a working torpedo factory! Today, it’s been transformed, from one of Sydney’s wartime relics, into a fantastic, harbourfront community precinct.

Visitors to Sub Base Platypus can enjoy a guided tour of the old torpedo factory, booked through Sub Base Tour Stories, or do a self- guided tour, following the ‘HELLO’ signs and using their phones, and AI, to ask questions about the site. There’s also a stunning mural by First Nations artist, Dennis Golding, and visitors can also connect with country at Wirra Birra Park.

Just next door to the site is Oberon Park, where you can enjoy fantastic BBQ and picnic facilities, as well as an interactive submarine-themed park for kids. With so much to do and see, Sub Base Platypus is the perfect family day out!

Sub Base Stories tour runs on select Saturdays, with ticket prices at $21 for adults and $16 for kids/concessions. Visit harbourtrust.gov.au to book the Sub Base Stories tour or learn more and plan your trip.
