Summer Hill Heroes

With its charming village-vibe, it’s easy to see why Sydney’s Summer Hill is regarded as an Inner West gem – and we’ve found a couple of eateries to prove it’s an absolute jewel!

Soul Tree Café is the Flour Mill Precint’s newest kid on the block and is far from run of the mill. Specialising in brunches, the kitchen is headed up by former hatted, word-class chef, Tomislav Martinovic, with his menu paying respect to owner Suz Gursahaney’s Middle Eastern background. Customers can expect incredible dishes such as Sydney’s best French Toast served with Golden Gaytime ice-cream! Other notable additions include Baked Turkish Eggs and a huge, mouth-watering Breakfast-Style Plate.

Three minutes away and housed in one of Sydney’s oldest post office buildings is hatted restaurant and bar, One Penny Red. Since its launch in 2014, owners David Murphy and Nina Alidenes have put a big focus on connecting with their community hosting many local food and wine events. Head chef RJ Lines’ interpretation of Australian cuisine has been widely recognised, especially when it comes to his smoked dishes. The Yoder Smoked Plum and Molasses Beef Short Rib is nothing short of amazing and the East Coast Bonito with Macadamia and Sea Grape is a must!
