For those keen to try their hand at surfing lessons, the Happy Days Surf School – operating out of Sandon Point and Woonona Beach just over an hour south of Sydney – is an all-inclusive surf school, tailoring classes to individual skills and needs. Owner-operator, José, will first teach you how to read the surf conditions before providing in-depth tutelage and instructions, on the beach, to give you the basics of how to stand up on your board. Once you’re feeling confident, it’s into the surf, with José by your side, and the gentle rolling waves beneath you. Nothing beats the feeling of surfing your very first wave!
If you’re after a beginners, or advanced, surfboard, Fangerz Surf + Coffee, in East Corrimal, is the place to go. Fangerz stock a range of great surfboards, as well as a select range of largely Australian, niche surf brands. There’s also a great coffee shop, serving Allpress coffee, as well as a selection of great pastries.
If you’re looking to stay somewhere unique, Cicada Luxury Camping is the Kiama region’s first eco-friendly accommodation. Choose from either a Bell Tent, with shared bathroom facilities, or the luxurious Safari Tents, complete with a private bath on the deck. All tents boast their own fire pits, and stunning views out over the rolling green hills of Jerrara.
