The Sydney Opera House is Australia’s most iconic performing arts venue, with over 40 amazing shows taking place each week. From dance to drama, comedy to music — the stages have been graced by some of the biggest names in the entertainment world.
While the thrill of seeing a show is hard to beat, what we see on stage is often only half of the story. If you want to take a peek behind the curtain, you need to join the Backstage Tour. This VIP experience runs daily from 7 a.m. and is an access-all-areas pass to the behind-the-scenes world of the Opera House. It is an amazing chance to learn about its’ dramatic history, architecture and the magic that needs to happen backstage to bring your favourite shows to life.
On the guided Backstage Tour, you’ll explore areas that are usually off limits to the public, including backstage corridors, dressing rooms and even the orchestra pit. You’ll visit the Concert Hall, which has hosted superstars from Prince, to Nigella Lawson and Solange Knowles, and take to the stage to experience theatre from a performer’s point of view.
You’ll also visit the famous Joan Sutherland Theatre, home to the Australian Ballet and Opera Australia. Go backstage in the dressing rooms and take a look in the orchestra pit. You’ll hear stories from past performers and learn more about the technical aspects of production. The tour concludes with a delicious breakfast you can enjoy in the Green Room amongst the crew and performers.
Opera Bar is one of Sydney’s most iconic dining venues, popular with locals and tourists for its’ prime position under the sails, and the unbeatable city view from almost every table. Stop by for lunch or dinner, a casual drink with friends, or check out their weekend breakfast menu.
