The Book of Mormon is open for a new season at the Capitol Theatre and it is an absolute blast! As you’d expect from creators – Trey Parker and Matt Stone of South Park fame – the show is naughty, outrageous and very, very funny.
And the cast keeps up their end of the bargain with a whole heap of sensational song and dance numbers that really do justice to the book and the score. The music is written by Robert Lopez – who is famous for writing Frozen, and though the two shows couldn’t be more different, the quality of the songwriting shines through.
The leads playing the mismatched young Mormons who are sent off on a mission to Africa, are Sean Johnston (Elder Price) and Nick Cox (Elder Cunningham). The pair really know how to play up the awkwardness between them, and Elder Cunningham’s slapstick persona is truly hilarious. And Paris Leveque excels in the role of the feisty village girl Nabulungi – or should that be Nutrogena?
You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll blush – just go and see The Book of Mormon.
