Wheels In Walcha

Between Armidale on the Northern Tablelands and Wauchope on the Mid North Coast is the motorcycling mecca of Walcha, a classic NSW country town that has become a hot spot for two-wheel riders over the last ten years.

And it’s not just the perfectly cambered corners of the Oxley Highway that make Walcha a must stop spot, it’s places like the Walcha Royal Café – you’ll know it by all the bikes parked outside. You can stay overnight in a classic and super comfy pub room, or just enjoy an incredible breakfast or lunch.

Walcha is also home to one of the most breathtaking art galleries you’ll ever see, especially if you love your bikes. The Antipodean Tynker showcases the work of artist Mark Walker, a mind-blowing collection of real working motorbikes, made largely from found objects. You’ll be amazed by the imagination, the ingenuity, and the precision engineering and yes, they all work.

And while you’re here, make sure you make the ride out to Aspley Gorge, a 150 metre deep gorge that cracks the undulating farm country right open. It’s a total surprise, as is the wonderful town of Walcha itself.
