Husky History | Huskisson

The Jervis Bay Maritime Museum & Gallery is just a few minutes’ walk from the bustling centre of Huskisson on the striking NSW South Coast in Shoalhaven, and an easy and rewarding stop for the whole family.

Inside, there’s something to spark curiosity at every turn. Explore the extensive collection of scientific and mathematical instruments in the fascinating Surveyors Gallery, or climb the stairs to discover the remains of the ill-fated Cape St George Lighthouse.

One of the highlights is the beautifully preserved Lady Denham ferry, a wooden Sydney Harbour ferry built right here in Huskisson in 1911. With its distinctive double-ended design, it once shuttled efficiently between wharves without needing to turn around, an essential feature for the busy inner harbour. After 67 years of service, she was retired and returned to her birthplace, where she now rests as a fully accessible exhibit, inviting everyone to step aboard and explore.

Kids love the free treasure hunt! Simply pick up a booklet on arrival, and if all the questions are answered correctly, a small prize awaits.

Outside, the grounds are just as inviting, perfect for a leisurely stroll along the new mangrove boardwalk or for relaxing on the lawns overlooking the pond.

It’s an ideal family day out, come rain or shine—just make sure you don’t miss it.
