Oyster Overnighter

Just under an hour from Sydney’s CBD, the Hawkesbury River is overflowing with secrets, and wonderful surprises to discover! It’s also home to some of the freshest oysters in the world. Sydney Oyster Farm Tours, headed up by Sheirdan Beaumont and her family, have been harvesting Hawkesury oysters for over fifteen years. They run a range of oyster tours, out onto the oyster leases, teaching people about the life cycle of bothe Sydney Rock and pacific Oysters, as well as teaching people how first nations, and first settlers, were able to harvest oysters too. The company’s latest offering is their incredible ‘Immerse Yourself’ tour,  where participants don a pair of fisherman’s waders, and literally immerse themselves into the water, to feed off oysters, fresh seafood, and French bubbles, at a table which stands in the water. With a lunch of fresh oysters, drawn and shucked from the tide, to the table, it doesn’t get much fresher than this!

With many of the accommodation options, on the Hawkesbury, only accessible by boat, Hawkesbury Water Taxi provides a wonderful, and necessary service. They also offer a ‘taxi and tinny’ service whereby they can only drop you to, and pick you up from, your accommodation, but also provide a tinny which you can use to explore this glorious and ever-changing river.

One of the premium properties, only accessible by boat, is the charming Oxley Boatshed. Built in 1924, and lovingly restored, the old boat shed is now the perfect, romantic getaway. The house feature original floorboards, born doors, and a huge sandstone fireplace for those cold nights. The walls are adorned with First Nations artworks, and of course, the river views are mesmerising.
