Papalote | Newcastle

You don’t have to travel all the way to Mexico for authentic Mexican food – just travel to Newcastle.

Papalote in Newcastle West is an exciting and vibrant new eatery that turns a meal into a real Mexican experience. Executive chef and co-owner Michael Portley and partners have created a menu that covers three distinct sections.

First is Crudo, fresh seafood, such as shucked-to-order New South Wales oysters served with a fresh sangrita made with pineapple, jalapeno and coriander.

Next is Antojitos, which are essentially Mexican street food, including elements made with masa. These include Sikil Pak with Totopos – a dip made of roasted pepitas served with freshly fried corn chips, prawn tostadas with charred guacamole and vegetarian Durandos, fried pockets of corn pastry stuffed with roasted eggplant and potato.

And finally, the Al Carbon section of the menu, with dishes like Pollo En Mole, charcoal grilled chicken with a mole poblano sauce, and Cochinita Pibil, marinated pork shoulder, rubbed with anchiote and grilled in banana leaves. Make your own tacos with a selection of sides or eat them as they are.

You have to try Papalote. Real Mexican food in Newcastle that’s well worth checking out!
