From vegan carbonara to naan pizza, we’ve found two restaurants that are turning traditional on its’ head!
‘Mark & Vinny’s’ is not your traditional Italian trattoria. This spaghetti and spritz bar in Surry Hills is serving up freshly made pasta but not as you know it. The blue spirulina tagliatelle is a signature dish, as is the ruby-red beetroot spaghettini, and the black charcoal bucatini. There are also 23 spritzes to try and you can even create your own signature flavour. The menu is also packed with vegan options, including the carbonara with a sweet potato egg yolk. If you’re looking to enjoy Italian flavours – but as not as you know them – ‘Mark & Vinny’s’ is a must.
And Jessi Singh’s newest restaurant ‘Don’t tell Aunty’ in Surry Hills showcases his famous ‘unauthentic Indian’ cuisine. The menu here has been designed with creativity in mind and the innovative dishes aren’t driven by rules and traditions but rather big flavours! The food draws inspiration from all regions of India, as well as from Australian and America cuisines and the result is extremely tasty. Think naan pizzas, samosa burgers and an Indian style nachos. The drink menu is just as interesting, with the signature ‘Don’t Tell Aunty’ cocktail mixing beetroot and mezcal with a black lava salt rim. It’s an East meets West fusion that is sure to satisfy.
