If you think you’ve eaten your way around Sydney and you’re ready for a change, maybe it’s time to look a little further afield. We’ve found some fantastic places–just out of town on the South Coast–that let you take your taste buds on a mini road trip.
Our first stop is Queen St Eatery and Wine Bar, a cool and casual restaurant right in the heart of Berry, where Chef Robbie Blackburn has put his own spin on some classic French bistro dishes. An heirloom beetroot and goats cheese salad sits very comfortably next to bistro fixtures, like steak frites and John Dory meuniere. All dishes are packed with delectable local produce, from South Coast oysters to the freshest vegetables available.
Another must visit is Stacks Burger House in Kiama Downs. Nearby Stacks Island in the Minnamurra River might have provided the name, but it’s the stacks of meat, cheese, bacon and veggies that have given this place its fame. Start with one of their breakfast burgers, or maybe try the FAT breakfast plate – that’s feta, avocado and tomato for the uninitiated.
Bring your appetite for lunch or dinner. Order a Southern-fried chicken burger or the double cheese and bacon burger and there’s no way you’re leaving hungry. For the vegos, or the health-conscious, they do a mean veggie burger served between a couple of lettuce leaves in place of a bun.
