Wake up in the Wild

Fancy like a walk on the wild side? How about a bike ride on the wild side?

At Taronga Western Plains Zoo, the 300-hectare site filled with wild animals in the heart of the central west in Dubbo can be navigated any way you like – on foot, by bike, by golf cart or by car!

The zoo is home to hundreds of different animals, but the African animals on the wide savannah are a real stand out. See heaps of giraffes, rhinos, zebras and even the odd ostrich, sharing the wide-open spaces.

Taronga Western Plains Zoo also has an important conservation role, with the Wildlife Hospital which gives zookeepers a chance to check and study animals big and small, but also through the brand-new Platypus Rescue HQ.

The new exhibit has been created to ensure the survival of the platypus in the event of weather extremes and bushfire or drought. The building is equipped with tanks able to hold 65 platypuses from river systems across NSW.

And of course, what really sets Taronga Western Plains Zoo apart is the fact you can stay there, either at Billabong Camp, Savannah Cabins or Zoofari Lodge. The accommodation options range from luxe to affordable – but the one thing they all have in common is a unique stay and expereince amongst the animal residents.

Have a wild weekend in Dubbo at Taronga Western Plains Zoo.
