My Sydney Weekender with Matt Shirvington

Matt Shirvington is an Aussie track legend! ‘Shirvo’ as he’s affectionately known is the second fastest Australian sprinter of all time, and has represented his country at many international events including the Commonwealth Games, and most notably at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, where he placed 5th.

These days Matt is part of the Seven News Sydney sports team, and while his Olympic Games days may be well and truly over, he is still super fit and active!

Sophie spends the day with Matt as he shares some of his favourite hangs and activities. Soph and Matt kick off their day with some mountain- biking around the Manly Dam Mountain Bike Trail. Whether you’re a beginner, or an experienced rider, the trail is a scenic and fun way to experience both the sport, and this beautiful part of the world.

Sophie and Matt then head to the Middle Harbour Yacht Club, where they meet sailor Jake Lilley, who is representing Australia at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the Finn class. Inspired by Jake, Sophie and Shirvo then gear up for a beginners sailing lesson, on Middle Harbour, instructed by a future sailing champion in the making.

When you do as much exercise as Matt, you can indulge in a long lunch. And there’s nowhere better to enjoy great food, and sea views, than at the heritage-listed Bathers’ Pavilion in Balmoral. Matt and his family are co-owners of this iconic restaurant where you can enjoy the full gamut of dining experiences, from casual to fine dining.
