Less than an hour south-west of Sydney, Camden was the birth-place of the Australian wool industry. Today, it’s a great little town, full of art and culture, and a fabulous new restaurant that’s had a re-birth all of its own!
Housed in one of Camden’s most historic old homes, the Alan Baker Art Gallery at Macaria celebrates the work of local, Australian artist Alan Baker. Currently exhibiting a curated selection from the Camden Art Collection: an evolving contemporary archive of more than 200 artworks gathered over the past 46 years. Spanning painting, works on paper, sculpture, textiles and more, the collection reflects the diverse and continually shifting creative landscape of the Macarthur region.
Just short stroll down the road is one of the region’s finest restaurants, Argyle House. Following a devastating fire in 2020, the heritage- listed Whiteman’s Arcade, built over 120 years ago, has risen from the ashes, and with it Argyle House was born. The venue offers a menu of exciting Japanese fusion dishes, as well as premium cuts of meats. The main dining room is simply stunning, and for a unique dining experience, there’s delightful dining domes out on the rooftop!
From the Alan Baker Art Gallery to Argyle House, Camden is full of unexpected surprises!
