The days of the blacksmith are gone right? Wrong! You can learn some classic blacksmith skills by enrolling in a class at Eveleigh Works, located in the old Eveleigh Railway Workshops.
This place has been a working blacksmith shop for the last 135 years, but now the focus has moved from making steam trains to making architectural ironwork, sculptural ironwork and any other fun and creative pieces the course members can dream up.
And the history is on full display everywhere you look. The workshops still has operation tools such as furnaces and power hammers, but there are also rack upon rack of tools made in the workshop for a specific job, that are still there and good to go if you need them
Owner Matt has been going at it hammer and tongs for years, and is an experienced teacher who will set you on your way to heat, beat and craft a piece of raw steel into the object of your dreams.
