Middle East Feast

In Turkey’s capital- Istanbul- street food is everywhere…and now Sydney has its very own all-day Middle Eastern eatery- in the heart of the city!

Above Par is a celebration of ‘levantine’ cuisine, which is the eastern Mediterranean, and encompasses countries including Turkey, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq. The dishes here are mostly Turkish, with highlights including stone baked eggplant, and a delicious Turkish pizza known as lahmacun. There’s also over two hundred wines, including many from Turkey and beyond, to enjoy. Make sure you leave room for the Turkish mastic ice- cream!

Just across town, in Potts Point, lyes the upmarket Turkish restaurant, Izgara. Inspired by the Turkish cabaret theatres of the 1960’s, with heavy red velvet curtains and chandeliers. Just like the traditional ocakbasi restaurants, across Turkey, the centrepiece of this elegant restaurant is the grill where diners can watch their food being lovingly cooked, over fire, in front of their eyes. Go-to dishes include the lamb kibbeh, and house-made pide. For the flavours of the grill, the iskender is a must-try dish of shaved lamb backstrap with pide bits, hung yoghurt and foamy butter. There’s also grilled tiger prawns, with coriander butter, and a selection of fine quality steaks.
