My Sydney Weekender with Candice Warner

They say that behind every successful man is a strong woman. Candice Warner nee Falzon is not only the wife of celebrated Australian cricketer and former captain, David Warner, and the mother of his three children, but as a former pro ironwoman, Candice is also a highly successful athlete in her own right.

These days though, you’re more likely to find her on her local beach at Maroubra, where she was born and bred and began her career as a lifesaver.  Weekends are spent swimming, surfing and playing beach cricket with her husband, and kids, and enjoying the great outdoor lifestyle that the area affords.

The newly built Heffron Pedal Park, just down the road, is another favourite family hang. Parents can rest reassured that the kids are safe, in this enclosed bike park that emulates real street situations, while the kids have a safe space and opportunities to test and push their limits.

For some ‘me time’, Candice is also a frequent visitor to the famous ocean rockpool Mahon Pool, at the base of Jack Vanny Reserve, where she does her laps when training. And for a post-swim meal and coffee, Candice just heads across the road to the Pool Cafe, where the meals are fresh, seasonal and, being by the ocean, seafood heavy. Candice’s ‘go-to’ meal is the Roast Pumpkin salad with chia, rocket, candied nuts and baked ricotta. And for that extra something, she adds grilled prawns.
