My Sydney Weekender with Matty J

Bondi is home to an eclectic group of locals- from models, to DJ’s and artists, this suburb attracts many creative types. It’s also home to that rarest of reality TV dating show stars, one who found true and enduring love- Matty J!

Now that he’s moved into his love nest with partner, Laura Byrne, he’s also dad to two children, and a three-legged rescue dog, Buster. These days, on weekends, Matty J is most likely found at his local, dog-friendly park- Marks Park, which boasts uninterrupted views, out over the mighty Pacific ocean. Matty J loves nothing more than spending time here, with Laura, his girls, and Buster.

When Matty J and Laura have an adults-only date night, one of their restaurants of choice is Tottis Bondi, conveniently located within walking distance of their Bondi pad. Tottis is a much-loved local Italian joint, where the dishes are designed to share. This Italian eatery, headed up by Mike Eggert, is big on theatre with wood-fired bread made to order, and hanging meats adorning the restaurant. Expect a selection of house-made antipasto, great pastas, and meats cooked in a Josper charcoal oven. Oh, and the cocktail list is fabulous too!

There’s another thing that Matty J can thank reality TV for, and that’s his dance moves! Matty J appeared on season 16 of Dancing With the Stars: All Stars, along with fellow luminaries Ada Nicodemou, Bec Hewitt, Jamie Durie and more. Matty J keeps his love of dancing alive, at Move Dance Studios, in Randwick, owned and  run by DWTS instructors, and husband-and- wife team, Aric and Masha. Whether you’re a beginner dancer, or a seasoned pro like Matty J, Aric and Masha have a class for you!
