Freshwater. It’s one of Sydney’s favourite beaches; home to the first wave ever surfed in Australia. It’s also home to some of Sydney’s best restaurants, and this week Matt Basely takes us to two of Freshie’s freshest!
The iconic Harbord Hotel (formerly known as The Harbord Beach Hotel) has recently undergone a spectacular makeover and now houses the stunning Balsa Restaurant. Inspired by the community’s rich surfing history, Balsa has a cruisy coastal vibe complimented by a spectacular lunch and dinner menu which boasts some fantastic seafood including the Raw Tuna Tostada and Balsa’s classic Lobster Roll. And for the meat-lovers, the Redgum Sirloin is nothing short of sensational.
A short stroll away is another gem which is fast becoming a Freshwater favourite. St Alama, sister restaurant to the much-praised Alma restaurant in Avalon, is a welcoming space that marries contemporary Mexican fare with relaxed, next-level dining. The mouth-watering menu showcases dishes from twenty different regions of Mexico. The Hard-Shell Sashimi Tacos, and the Civiche Prawn Aguachile are among the seafood crowd-pleasers, and if you’re all about sharing the love, the Agave Short Ribs with handmade Corn Tortillas is an absolute knockout!
