In its 200th anniversary year, the State Library of NSW is throwing open its photographic archives with three major new exhibitions.
Definitive Dupain is the first major retrospective drawn from Max Dupain’s complete archive spanning more than 160,000 images across a 60-year career from Australia’s most influential black & white photographer.
Mervyn Bishop: Close Up, celebrates the man who broke barriers as the first Aboriginal Australian to work on a metropolitan daily newspaper.
And photojournalist Lorrie Graham, the Sydney Morning Herald’s first female photography cadet, will feature in an upcoming retrospective of her 50-year archive.
It’s a whole new way to see Australian life, cities, people and memories, and it’s all free. And if there’s time to spare, finish the day with a cocktail and skyline views at the rooftop Library Bar.
