How to spend a weekend in Murrumbateman

Not long ago Murrumbateman was a “blink and you’ll miss it” kind of town. Not anymore!  This tiny village in the Yass Valley is now the ideal place to stay, dine, adventure and explore one of NSW’s most exciting new boutique wine regions.

A three hour drive from Sydney, Murrumbateman’s on the Barton Highway – 20 minutes south of Yass and 20k’s shy of the ACT border. Mel gets “high” on the scenery UP in the saddle with Burnelee Excursions on horseback with her guide Rachel – a 5th generation woman living on this sheep and cattle property.

Hungry? The food around here is AWARD winning…. Olleyville at Shaw Vineyard Estate was a finalist in the Restaurant and Catering – Awards for Excellence for Best Restaurant and Winery and Chef of the Year. HOT TIP for best dish – Mel tells us the Wood-Fired Duck with Coriander and Thyme dressing is amazing!

And there’s a brand new Cellar Door – drop in for a tasting or simply admire the architecture and artworks. They’re both stunning.

Come bedtime check into Adobe Murrumbateman – a new hotel that has some really fresh ideas like the “Help Yourself” Pantry in the lobby – stocked with local foods and wines, communal kitchen and it’s dog friendly as well – so this holiday really can be one for the whole family.
