There really are so many things to do at Lake Macquarie – on and off the water.
Start out at MAC Yapang, the Museum of Art and Culture on the western shore of the Lake. This is a seriously impressive regional gallery and it’s also home to the MAC Yapang Sculpture Park, a collection of 20 sculptures from Australian and international artists. These include works from indigenous elder Uncle Doug Archibald, local-born sculptor Jamie North and a stunning new work by Abby Rich.
There’s also the Creative Lake Sculpture Trail, a five kilometre walking trail linking contemporary artworks with the foreshore. There are sculptures, conceptual installations and even 3D murals at popular spots like Speers Point, Warners Bay and Eleebana.
On the lake, you can rent a houseboat from Lake Macquarie Houseboats for the ultimate waterfront experience. No license required and there are dedicated mooring all across the Lake for you to enjoy all this natural playground has to offer.
And if you like the breeze in your hair, hop aboard Sail Lake Macquarie’s 48-foot Beneteau yacht for a twilight cruise. Head up the Lake and then sail back into the sunset. It’s a stunning way to end your Lake Macquarie stay.
