The story of two star-crossed lovers, West Side Story has been described as the modern-day Romeo and Juliet. In 2024, the Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour version has the added drama of the world’s most beautiful harbour as the backdrop to an incredible, outdoor stage. Rival gangs – the Jets and the Sharks – battle it out in a dangerous turf war while Maria and Tony – from different sides of the battle lines – fall madly in love, against all odds and amongst the chaos and danger of it all. This musical masterpiece, described as having the greatest musical score of all time, also features great costumes, and dynamic dance routines that will blow you away.
