What to do on a trip to Daydream Island

Daydream Island in tropical north Queensland is one of seven islands of the Molle Group in the Whitsundays.

Originally named West Molle, it was the Murray family in the 1930s who christened the island ‘Daydream’ when they set up the very first tourist resort.

In 2017, it was struck by cyclone Debbie. Following an extensive redevelopment, the island is again open for visitors. There are daily flights into Hamilton Island and then it’s a thirty-minute ferry ride.

The accommodation has been beautifully refreshed and offers 277 modern rooms and suites, with the choice of interconnecting rooms for families.

A key ingredient to a great holiday is, of course, the food and beverages. Guests can easily eat up a few days trying all the choices at Daydream. Cocktail hour is always a favourite — try the Wanderlust!

As for activities — there’s a wonderful program of experiences with the Living Reef Lagoon at the heart. Guests can grab a backstage pass and be guided through with a marine biologist. You can take part in the touch tanks, underwater observatory, fish feeding, as well as go snorkeling in the living reef.

Day trips to world famous Whitehaven Beach can also be arranged. These include a visit to Hill Inlet for that classic postcard photo opportunity, a snorkel off Haslewood Island, as well as a few hours to chill out on Whitehaven Beach.

If you’d like to start planning a visit to Daydream Island, here’s a tip: Join the Daydreamer Club for all the best offers and deals. Kids 12 and under have all meals included free of charge, plus they can stay for free using existing bedding.
